website layout (Home +Submit)

Artshare.com is a world-wide community of artist sharing multi-media for the sake of sharing.
Artists submit individual pieces which are classified under 4 categories: audio, design, video and still photography. Users can access art by category or by date of submission. There is also a search function.
The home-page features a new piece each week and links the user to the artist's website.

here on the SUBMIT page the artist chooses the file, sates the type of art that it is, their name and location (optional).

As each page is navigated the chosen button color changes and the rest of the buttons are striked out.

Website

Sites that i like

htttp://www.montreallive.ca

http://www.midnightpoutine.ca/

I like these sites for their design and functionality; color palettes, shapes and content.

I would like to make a website that is a user friendly site that allows people to submit their artwork into different categories: Music, Design, film and photography. Artists can leae a name or make it anonymous. The idea is to share pieces of art.
I want to make a website that is not for profit. I site with no adds and no products.

Constructivist-style Poster

This is my final and strongest attempt at a constructivist-style poster. I wanted to do something that was a little bit conscious in some way. What with all the buzz about occupy wall street all over the internet, one can spend hours in front of their computer reading articles and watching videos. The movement is very inspiring but at the same time can be very heavy and draining if you let it. I thought that if we were to all spend as much time doing something creative, things probably wouldn't seem so bad. But if only creativity bailed out poor folks and payed the hydro bill, or bought groceries...

To start I created vector images of a piano, bass and congas in AI. I then fixed them by smoothing the edges and straightening lines using the handles and anchors function. I then i worked on the background in PS. I wanted a multi-layed look so I experimented with different colours and straight-lined boxes until I came up with what you see. I incorporated colours found in my inspiration posters by using the eyedropper tool. I opened the vector images in PS and arranged the sizes. I then went to a free font site and downloaded a font that reminded me of communism or constructivist-era typefaces. Finally i re-arranged all the images and words until I felt comfortable and it looked right. I wanted the poster to be direct and obvious in its message but also provocative, allowing the viewer to think independently of what it might signify to them, if anything at all.

If there's anything i would add or change about the poster it would be to give it a more naturally textured look. A silk screen texture for example. I tried a few different tools in PS to add a little noise but could not find anything that I liked. Likely I would obtain the look if I was to actually silk screen the image, rather than try to create a mock-texture.

I decided to turn all of my sketches into posters so i figured I should show them. I made this "double" bass vector image in Illustrator. I really like the texture i got on this one. It really feels natural and real like a painting or an actual print. I found a yellow vinyl texture and manipulated it in PS until i got those colors. I then set the opacity of the vector image to make it seem like it was printed onto the texture. I made it a "tour" poster to give an example of what it could be used for.

This one was really just for fun. I found that the bass in this one was a little bit more cartoony and resemble a Christmas tree. So I went for it as a x-mas party poster. I manipulated the opacity levels in the background images to create depth to the layers which allowed me to have the "A" bleed in specific parts into the red angled boxes. It's direct in its message but also visually interesting.

Sketches for Constructionist poster

These are my sketches for the constructivist poster project. I've been obsessed with the visual of the stand-up bass lately. It says "music" but specifically natural, organic music. I like that.

Constructivist Poster Project

These are the Posters that inspired me

I like this one because i LOVE Tetris. Also, the political implications presented in the poster provoke thought in me.

This one I like because of its simplicity. However simplistic, the image is recognizable by almost everyone under the age of 50. I also like the adaptation of the propaghanda-style war posters in the Star Wars theme.

This one i find interesting because of the blatant irony. It reminds me of communism but is actually an ad for a super expensive purse.

I like the use of red and black in this one. and again, it's simplicity. Very stark contrast. I also like the font, especially the "say".

This final poster has striking imagery. I don't know what it is saying though. I like how the bigger boot exceeds the square limits. I also like the roughness of the cuts. Looks like it may have be done with construction paper and scissors.

Letter Project

The Letter i chose was "I". I should say that the letter chose me. I saw the letter within the shape rather than looking for shapes that look like letters.

I imported the image into photoshop. I decreased the brightness and contrast to darken the lighter parts.
I then imported the image in to Illustrator and performed a live trace. I had to experiment for a while with different settings in the trace to get something solid.

Once i expanded the image  i was able to smooth out any left over inconsistencies using anchors and handles.
For fun i imported the vector file back into PS
I set up a canvas and arranged several copies of the vectorized image and colored them in using a color palette i found online.
I went a little further and drafted a mock logo using the "I"

Logo Project - Final

To Begin i imported  the image of four stick men and woman holding hands into PS. I chopped them into just two people and painted them black. I then imported that file into illustrator where i performed a live trace. Once i had my vectorized image i fixed any wavy lines or messy edges.
Next i imported the image of the television set directly into AI where i performed a live trace. I fixed all the edges to make it smooth. I then added the two images together giving me the "TV Head" stick man and woman.  To add character is rotated and tilted the tv heads. I chopped off the legs of the male's tv and extended the legs of the female's. I found that this further individualized the two genders to make it all the more obvious.
The Idea for "Functional Objects" was directly inspired by street artists such as Banksy and Obey among many others. It is a mixture of familiar things in such a way to make the final product unfamiliar; something that makes a person stop and think.
I chose to use the stick men type bodies to exemplify how we are all the same. The TVs represent us as brainwashed, misinformed, generic, mediocre, ignorant, etc.

These are the images i found to use in putting together my logo
In the end i chose these bathroom sign type people because it is universal in representing people. I chopped them in half just to keep with my original sketch. I liked the idea of using a man and a woman together to represent both genders but also, in a more traditional sense, to represent a modern couple as second generation TV watchers.
I went with the above TV set because it is simple like the bathroom sign-style people and just matched better.  for the final version you will see that i cleaned it up, reversed, and rotated it. The reversal and rotation made the TV look more human and expressive.

Chosen Sketch for logo

the sketch i chose
I felt that this was the most original sketch that really defined the idea of a "Functional Object". Its kind of a cynical critique of modern people; how the general north american watches way too much TV which provides us with a base for morality and fuels misinformation.

Sketches for Logo

These are my sketches.
I was right away drawn to the people idea. I began to think about the idea of "Functional Objects". As in, we are functional objects as TV obsessed, media driven, puppets. We do what we're told, we think what we're told to think and so on. I experimented with different kinds of stickmen.  I also thought of using keyboards or dollar bills as heads or hands. I also thought of using an entire family of stickmen.

Brainstorm squares

I started my brainstorm with ideas of brainwashing through technology. I dont mean brain washing in the direct sense like A Clockwork Orange but rather the intrinsic nature brainwashing in the act of watching TV. I already began to picture a sign or a directive to represent my idea so i went in that direction right away. I also was thinking about Love and life as it relates to modern thought. For the animorph section i didnt have any ideas so i just went with cat because i have two cats

inspiration board for my first logo

Simple. These logos both inspired me in their simplicity and the loaded messages in some of them. I realized that im a sucker for social critique kind of stuff. Artists Banksy or Obey use everyday images that we are used to in order deliver and underlying message to the viewer.
